Des is a member of Bennett Chambers Group.
He has been admitted as a Barrister in Queensland since 1992.
Des is a third generation Barrister, whose father and grandfather were well known and well respected Barristers in the legal profession in Queensland, the first of which commenced practice on the 7th May, 1907.
Since he commenced at the private Bar in Queensland, Des has developed a broad practice including advising on a wide range of matters and appearing in numerous Courts and Tribunals including the Magistrates Court of Queensland, the District Court of Queensland, the Supreme Court of Queensland, the Court of Appeal Queensland, and QCAT, including many interstate Courts.
Since he commenced practice he has gained a broad grounding in law in such areas as criminal law, civil law, family law, native title law, planning and environment law, and administrative law.
The majority of his appearance work over the full extent of his professional life as a Barrister has been in criminal law practiced in the Magistrates Court of Queensland, the District Court of Queensland, and the Supreme Court of Queensland.
He is a well-experienced jury advocate and he prides himself in his criminal defence work.
Des has a strong sense of social justice and specialises in litigation and accepts Legal Aid work in criminal, family and child protection matters as well as ICL work.
